Stupidbowl Sunday
Actually, I might just tune in to watch the commercials,
and enjoy the hype of a "Six Million Dollar Minute". *
More snow. I'm beginning to see the weather pattern here...
This view is one mile from our house.
Part of our near daily commute into town.
Prairie toys.
Here's where they make clouds.
By noon, most of the new snow had melted off.
Moonrise.
I will never tire from seeing these.
* Up until now I have kept these pages free from editorial comment.
While I did enjoy a few of the commercials,
(a vulgar talking monkey, a crotch biting dog, and a flatulent horse),
tonight's Stupidbowl half-time show went too far.
I have already written to CBS, CNN, and the FCC.
The moral fabric of this country is being torn by the media.
That which is passed off as entertainment is disgusting.
Self censoring is a bad joke. The networks are competing with each other
to see who can be the most shocking, in your face, and anything goes...
Janet's stunt was indeed planned, just unrehearsed. She has a new CD coming out.
CBS' apology isn't good enough, and a "wardrobe malfunction"? Please. It had snaps.
Justin actually blew it. He was supposed to expose both.
I can imagine the executives at MTV exchanging high-5's.
And if Janet Jackson acted on her own, placing herself above CBS and MTV executives,
not to mention 100 million viewers internationally, then why isn't she being charged with indecent exposure?
In most municipalities, if she were dressed like that and standing on a downtown sidewalk...
I thought that having a broadcasting license was a priviledge. Don't the airwaves belong to the public?
Fines, if imposed on CBS, would only amount to about $6 million. How ironic. And ineffective.
Can you say, "Class action lawsuit?"
Wholesome family shows have been lost to a new generation of "Reality" programming,
and "sitcoms" depict situations which are neither real, nor comedic. But, sex sells. Of any kind.
"The Hollywood Agenda" is very clear, and is being promoted at the federal level.
The FCC has taken a laize faire (pronounced "lazy fear") approach,
and federal judges are legalizing immorality in the name of right to privacy and free speech.
There is something fundamentally wrong when it is OK to use the "f" word,
or to disgrace the American Flag, or to expose certain anatomical parts on national television,
but it is considered "unconstitutional" to display the 10 Commandments
or to say "one nation under God" inside of public institutions.
How is it possible that the expression of religious views
might be considered offensive to others, deemed politically incorrect or intolerant,
and therefore not afforded the same protections and rights to freedom of speech?
The media is free to insult us with their vulgar depiction of life in America,
and hastens the onslaught of moral decay, and we must "tolerate" it?
What if I don't? What if I find some of this behaviour "sinful"?
And if I voice my opinion, I might become guilty of a "hate crime"?
Offensive? It is time that the silent and moral majority got fed up with the feds.
Where in the constitution does it say "separation of church and state"?
Those words are not in the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights.
Yet so much has been done to restrict or deny Christianity
in the name of free speech through this alleged separation concept.
The original intent behind Jefferson's words in a letter,
was to protect religion from the state, not the other way around...
Last time I checked, U.S. coinage and currency still displays
"In God We Trust".
Who would have thought that it might become necessary to add an amendment
to the Constitution to protect the sanctity of marriage?
Perhaps it is time to appoint some new federal judges, and clean both houses.
The head of the FCC would be a good place to start.
What can you do? Write. Call. Make sure your representatives are representing you. Vote!
As for television, just turn it off. Read a good book.
