Monday, January 30
It was the storm that didn't.
Like so many "strom warnings" that have gone before,
this one produced a light dusting at about 3:30 PM yesterday,
about the time I took those photos. Then it stopped.
We were supposed to get 6-10 inches, followed by strong winds.
It was relatively calm all night, with temps above freezing.
Then the power went out. And back on. And off again.
Each time, every digital device in the house chirped, beeped, or buzzed.
The lights would flicker, and it sounded like something R2D2 would say.
At 1:45 AM, after yet another blink and beep, I heard water running.
I came downstairs to find that the rugged mountain boy had gotten up
and was taking a shower to get ready for school. He must have thought
his alarm had sounded. (I think he was still half asleep.)
He wasn't disappointed to find out he still had four more hours to go...
But the winds did come. Gusts up to 50 MPH at times.
And rain. It scoured the snow surface like it was sand.
Then the sun broke through. It was spring-like.
With temps up to 50 degrees in spots.
Still a bit breezy, with puffy type clouds.
Then came the sunset...
These were taken at home by the Mrs.
I was still at the office, frantically calling her
to see if she was seeing the same sunset that I was.
At the office, it was pure gold. Then orange and pink.
And patches of dark blue and purple. Then it started hailing.
Apparently there was no hail in the valley, just color.
It seemed as though the sky itself was on fire.
Moments later, it was exquisitely extinguished.
