Friday, February 17

By sunrise, we had warmed up to 3.2
Spencer almost missed the bus this morning,
but the driver saw him running, and backed down the hill.

Not much to bloviate on today, with the following exception.
Just an observation. It would appear to be a "bad thing"(tm)
to be touted as the gold medal favorite before an event.

And a hard lesson learned about grabbing that photo op
before you grab the gold. The one impression that I fear
that we as Americans are giving to the rest of the world,
is that our athletes are arrogant, and spoiled by early success.

I wish the media would cover the events, then, if there is a story
of interest, frame it with respect, honor, and humility.
Instead, there is so much hype, commercial endorsements, and
the tremendous pressure and expectations, that anything short of gold
is considered a disappointment. "What went wrong?"
"How do you feel after having blown it?"
"You will not be remembered for winning the silver,
but rather, for losing the gold."
(Etc., ad nauseum...)
