Some mixed feelings as we say our goodbyes to Max.
He's been a good goat, eating his weight in weeds, daily.
He even helped win some awards at the fair.
But, he acts like, well, a goat. Stubborn. Ornery.
Sometimes cargo refuses to load itself.
Just throw in a little grass hay, and he jumps right in.
We found a feed store just up the road that said they would take him.
At first we thought it might be a little desolate and lonely out here.
But as we walked down the path towards the house,
we soon realized that Max was going to like it here.
There were other goats to butt heads with.
Lots of them, and of varying size and breed.
Moms and babies.
Some with floppy ears.
Cindy knew them all by name.
Apparently, she used to run a petting zoo.
They still make trips to California a few times per month
to buy and sell animals, mostly sheep.
There were flocks of sheep.
There was an "all-you-can-eat" oat feeder.
And these really clever shelters made out of storage tanks.
There was even a pair of llamas.
Max introduced himself by butting heads with them.
Not sure if that relationship got off to a good start.
The trees are home to a flock of ravens. Hundreds of them.
More of a nuisance than anything else.
They can gobble up a lot of food.
Satisfied that Max had found himself a new home, we said goodbye,
and headed back to the ranch to work on the deck.
It warmed up to over 70 degrees today. Toasty.
Sisi Bear kept cool in one of the many holes they dug up.
More than a dozen planks installed. A new record.
Must be quittin' time.
For the first time, we can now walk straight out from the house,
down the steps, and into the spa without worrying about falling through.
