All quiet on the western front ... of the barn.
Oh, sure. It's peaceful now. Evening recap:
I arrived home mid-afternoon to what was shaping up to be a beautiful sunset.
The Mrs. was in the driveway, but instead of camera in hand,
she was holding onto Elijah. I thought, hmmm, taking him for a walk?
No. He had gotten out. I knew it was only a matter of time
before he figured out that he could simply step over the fence.
All he needed was an excuse, or a catalyst. Enter "Poncho".
Our neighbor's pesky dog had wandered into our yard. OOpsie.
Elijah and Sisi Bear had found a way to climb on top of the deep snow, and over the fence.
We knew that it was time to clear the snow away from the fence.
But we are talking several hundred feet of fence, and deep, heavy, wet snow.
I thought I would use the tractor to remove the snow,
but I would first have to dig my way to the gate.
After nearly an hour, I had only managed to clear about 10 feet towards the gate.
With the sun already going down, it was obvious that this was going to take a long time,
and we needed a temporary solution. Ruthie and the puppies were locked inside the barn,
with Elijah and Sisi Bear loose inside the garage area of the barn. Not good.
The vehicles are out in the cold, and we can't open the garage doors.
The plan: dig a trench (with shovels) around the perimeter of the first kennel.
Then place Elijah and Sisi Bear out there. It will do for tonight.
Try to buy some time in order to dig out the south 40 fence.
So, dig we do... Hours of back-break. Ugh.
