It got up to 34 today. There's some snow-meltin' weather.
While we have been blessed with an abundant winter season,
at some point, it becomes too much of a good thingy.
Most of our snow has slidden off the roof.
There have been several nearby roofs collapsing under the weight.
It will take months for this pile to melt away.
The good news is that I won't have to mow the lawn until July.
This is the trench we dug out with shovels last night.
Around the trees, and into the corner.
And all along the front of the kennel.
Perhaps 150 feet total. Deep enough that they cannot climb,
and wide enough that they cannot jump. (In theory.)
Elijah surveys the abyss.
He is not a happy camper in this small kennel.
And if that stupid dog next door gets out again, so will Elijah.
My goal was to get the tractor through the gate.
This is as far as I got. It will take hours. Maybe this weekend...
We did a little doggie detective work to find their escape route.
Paw prints suggested that they merely walked from dog house #2,
to dog house #1, then climbed down the snow pile to the driveway.
An alternate route might have been to jump over this fence.
Other tracks were found in the front yard,
between the snow pile and the barn.
We decided that digging out the fences could not wait.
I thought I might try to use the snowblower.
The sheepies were curious, but didn't offer to help.
After a couple attempts, it became painfully obvious
that the snowblower would not cut it.
As the sun started to set, we were once again faced with
digging the snow out with shovels. We focused on the area
between the dog houses, and widened the mote inside the first kennel.
