A footnote from Valentines Day:
On Monday, February 12th I took a call about delivering flowers to a man's wife.
There was a strange delay on the line making it hard to communicate.
The man was unsure of prices and was originally only going to send his wife a single
rose, but when he heard Connie's prices he decided he might send her a dozen. His concern was
about a lost debit card the bank was replacing for him. He thought he might not have it on time
so he thought he would call me back with a different debit card number.
So I reserved a dozen roses for John Thrall in the hopes he would call back and place the order.
He did call back Valentines morning and placed the order for his wife, a single rose for his daughter
and a balloon for his 2yr old son. He gave Connie his debit card number. Turns out this gentleman was calling
from Iraq. A soldier trying to honor and show his love for his family who are sacrificing for our freedom here at home.
I asked Connie to give me the phone, greeted John, and told him his Valentines order was my gift to him for his service,
his honor and his sacrifice for my freedom. What a wonderful feeling to be able to thank a member of our military in a way
that really matters to him and his family. Thanks again John Thrall and family!
Otherwise, it was just an ordinary walk this morning except the snow is still piled very high!
Except for the snow that fell tonight. Snow? Yes, that four letter word, S N O W.
I know, I know. I thought we were done with it too. But nooooooo. We'll see how much falls by tomorrow.
Got the rugged mountain teens' report cards. Wow, they are both on the honor roll (aka Lakeland Renaissance Honors Student.)
Ashley should be very proud of her accomplishment. When she came to live with us she had less than a 2.0 gpa. Now it's 3.5!
Spencer has vowed to get even more A's next semester.
As a result of their 3.5 gpa accomplishment they get a "Green" card.
This card gets them out of last period class on Friday's 5 min early. It also gets them out of 3rd
period class 5 min early (that's the one right before lunch!) and best of all they can skip one final
at the end of the year. Next semester when they both earn a 3.7 gpa or better they get a "Gold" card
that gets them out of last period and third period 10 min early and they can skip two finals. I call
that incentive! P.S.: both of these kids are taking advanced placement classes. Ashley is in AP english
and Spencer is in AP math and AP english. Way to go Rugged Mountain Teens!
